We are always seeking new staff to join our team at the Block Island Club. The Club is open throughout the summer months and is a great opportunity for High School and College Students to work on the island. There are also some longer-term opportunities available.

Staff must be 16 years old by September 1st 2023 to apply.

Interns must be 14 years old by September 1st 2023 to apply.

STAFF POSITION (AGED 16 BY 9/1/23)

This is a general application for a staff position at the Block Island Club. Staff members may either assist in specific programs (arts & crafts, sailing, swimming, tennis) or be the face of the Club in the BIC office. Below is a brief description of each role.

Sailing Responsibilities:

  • Implement the BIC sailing program for sailors of all abilities on 6 different classes of boat

  • Teach and facilitate both children and adult students

  • Provide support for private lessons and sailing charters when required

  • Ensure daily maintenance and repair of all boats

  • US Sailing Level 1 Certificate Required

Swimming Responsibilities:

  • Devise and execute a safe, fun and educational Swim program over 9 weeks

  • Teach and facilitate children ages 5+

  • Oversee weekly swim tests for children enrolled in the BIC

  • Lifeguarding Certificate Required

Tennis Responsibilities:

  • Implement the BIC tennis program for players of all abilities at a high level

  • Teach and facilitate children ages 5+

  • Assist in Adult and Children’s clinics when required

Arts & Crafts Responsibilities:

  • Devise and execute an engaging Arts & Crafts program with weekly projects

  • Teach and facilitate children ages 5+

  • Design and build the annual 4th of July Float

Office Responsibilities:

  • Be the face of the Block Island Club, assisting members with queries and ensuring they have an incredible experience

  • Assist in the management of social media and online marketing

  • General administration, including financial and membership management


INTERNS POSITION (AGED 14 BY 9/1/23)


Since its inception, the Intern Program has provided a valuable and rewarding experience to all participants and has been an essential part of the Club’s success.

Interns assist the club manager and staff with daily duties and will support the staff in program areas (arts & crafts, sailing, swimming, and tennis). We anticipate Interns will focus on one or two program areas during the summer, depending on their skills and the Club’s needs. Interns will work 15-20 hours per week for 3-4 weeks during the summer; this will be determined based on the final staffing configuration, the Intern’s experience and the Club’s needs.

Requirements for Interns:

  • Age 14 by 9/1/23

  • A 3-4 week commitment to the Club

  • Completion of a Red Cross Adult/Child First Aid with CPR class

  • Receipt of a completed intern application by April 1st, 2023
